1770 Festival fever hits the Discovery Coast

Rain and storms have not put a dampener on preparations for the 2013 Captain cook 1770 Festival. Some planning for this year's festival may have changed, but the event itself is still on track for 25 and 26 May, 2013, said organising committee president Cheryl Wickes.

More than just Jetsam and flotsam, Gladstone Regional Council and Queensland National Parks and Wildlife have been busy cleaning up beaches on the Discovery Coast due to the influx of items being washed up on the foreshores of Agnes Water, Workmans Beach, Mitchell Creek and Eurimbula National Park due to flooding

There is a new owner at Agnes Water Beach Boutique in Endeavour Plaza.The store previously owned by Debbie Budd of 'Beach Buddies', is now owned and operated by Jackie Hoad, who took over the business just before Christmas
Turtle Monitoring On The Discovery Coast Update

The first loggerhead turtles nest emerged during the night of 11 January, followed by the next night with a flat back turtle nest. Of the 142 eggs laid by the Loggerhead turtle 136 hatchlings made it to the water while one other live baby was caught in the nest on grass roots and subsequently rescued by the volunteers. The remainder were on developed unhatched eggs

Bendigo bank has launched the Discovery Coast flood appeal to help regions flood affected residents. The appeal was initiated by Agnes Water/1770 Community Bank Branch which is already received support from the local Lions Club with $1000 in donations.

The current flood emergency has devastated several towns in the southern area of the Discovery Coast. Initial difficulties with communications turn to relief when, after three days without contact with Baffle Creek, Lowmead and Rosedale, emergency services established that there had been no loss of life from the disaster human that is.
